Description

Smithbrook Cabernet Merlot

Vintage 2010 Region Margaret River Varieties Cabernet Sauvignon 70% Merlot 30%

Vintage Notes

This wine has been crafted utilising fruit sourced from a number of grower vineyards within the Margaret River region. These sites were selected due to their production of expressive, varietally distinct grapes. The parcels were separately vinified allowing maximum blending options and the selection of the best wines for this specific blend. The result is a wine that is both elegant in texture and flavour but with a robust varietal spectrum of flavours that leaves the palate begging for more.

Analysis

Aroma The wine exhibits ripe cassis and plum fruit flavours with restrained spicy cedar overtones, hints of mocha and dried bay leaf which adds intrigue and complexity. Established in the late 1980s by wine legend Dr Bill Pannell (Moss Wood, Picardy), Smithbrook was the first major vineyard in the Pemberton region. The subsequent involvement of Brian Croser (Petaluma, Tapanappa, Decanter Man of the Year 2004) has helped cultivate a vineyard that produces fruit of the highest quality and delivers an outstanding range of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varieties.   In 2010, Smithbrook was acquired by Peter and Lee Fogarty, making the vineyard a part of the family-owned and highly regarded Fogarty Wine Group. As part of the Group, Smithbrook has continued to be a pioneer in the Pemberton region, with each of its wines capturing the essence of what this beautiful area has to offer.
