Description

Wine: 2013 Rochford €˜la Gauche€™ Cabernet

Varieties: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc Tasting Notes: Dark black berry in colour, the aromatics are of cassis, spice and warm earth. The palate is medium to full bodied with elegant black and blue fruits, fine grained tannins and has great length. Viticulture Notes: Our Hill Road vineyard and winery is located at Coldstream, 40kms east of Melbourne in Victoria€™s oldest grape growing region, the Yarra Valley. Grown on ancient, mountain derived sandy clay loams, these rocky soils combined with our thirty-year-old vines are at the heart of this wine. The 2012 vintage was a welcome return to warm ripening conditions but poor flowering and reduced yields meant selective picking, sorting and care in the cellar was paramount. Harvest: Hand-picked 14th March Vinification: Destemmed to open fermenter short cold soak, spontaneous fermentation, four week extended maceration. Elevage: 15 months in French puncheons (20% new), racked before bottling, no fining. Technical Data: Alcohol 14.0%
