2012 Rochford €˜L€™Enfant Unique€™ Pinot Noir (50% whole bunch)

Varieties: 100% Pinot Noir Winemaker Tasting Notes: Cherry red. Immediately obvious is the whole bunch aromatics (50% to be precise), red fruits are matched with earth, roses and spice. Fifteen months in oak has tempered the fruit for now, this will however build with time. For now the delicate ripe Pinot Noir fruit are matched with oak derived tannin and a healthy acid line. Should evolve well over the next five €“ ten years. Viticulture Notes: Our Hill Road vineyard and winery is located at Coldstream, 40kms east of Melbourne in Victoria€™s oldest grape growing region, the Yarra Valley. Grown on ancient, mountain derived sandy clay loams, these rocky soils combined with our thirty-year-old vines are at the heart of this wine. 2012 was a welcome return to warm ripening conditions but poor flowering and reduced yields meant selective picking, sorting and care in the cellar was paramount. Harvest: Hand-picked 25th February Vinification: 50% Whole bunch, natural fermentation lasting 21 days before pressing. Elevage: 15 months in French oak barrels (30% new) Technical Data: Alcohol 13.3%
