Wine: Rochford Yarra Valley Cabernet Franc

Vintage: 2012 Varieties: 100% Cabernet Franc Tasting Notes: Purple red in colour. Aromatics of peppercorn, dried herbs and sour cherries. Not as aromatic as the 2011 but much more giving. Impressive weight on the palate with lovely texture and length with fine tannin and healthy acid. Elegant and refined in style this wine will cellar well for ten years. Winemaking Notes: A single vineyard wine, handpicked on the 14th of March and made using traditional winemaking techniques. Destemmed to open fermenter, a short cold soak, followed by spontaneous fermentation with four week maceration before pressing. Aged in a selection of French Barriques (20% new) for 15 months and racked only once prior to bottling with no fining. Viticulture Notes: Our Hill Road vineyard and winery is located at Coldstream, 40kms east of Melbourne in Victoria€™s oldest grape growing region, the Yarra Valley. Grown on ancient, mountain derived sandy clay loams. These rocky soils combined with our thirty-year-old vines are at the heart of this wine. 2012 was a welcome return to warm ripening conditions but poor flowering and reduced yields meant selective picking, sorting and care in the cellar was paramount. Technical Data: Alcohol 14.0%
