Aramis Single Vineyard Shiraz (notes currently for 2011 vintage)
This Single Vineyard Shiraz is a pure expression of our unique McLaren Vale site. It is an ethereal wine with both poise and power. After 23 months in French oak barrels it has developed considerable complexity with a tantalising balance of opulent fruit and savoury notes. Heady aromas of blueberry and chocolate are underpinned by subtle star anise, violet and earthy characters, and structured fine-grained tannins. Enjoy this wine now, or if you can bear to wait, for many years to come.
Our family owned 64 acre vineyard is located at the bottom of the McLaren Vale, just 2km away from the Gulf of St Vincent. The steep southerly aspect protects the vines from the intense afternoon sun and allows the entire vineyard to enjoy the cooling sea breeze that comes in from the south west. With one of the coolest sites in the Vale we are able to produce elegant wines that balance rich primary fruit flavours with the characteristic earthiness of our vineyard.
Our Single Vineyard wines are made using traditional, labour intensive methods. The 2011 Single Vineyard Shiraz was matured for a period of 23 months in premium French oak (24% new) prior to blending and bottling. The wine is neither fined nor filtered so that the integrity and full flavour profile of the varietal is maintained.
The 2011 vintage was challenging for much of South Australia being both cool and extremely rainy. The unique position of our vineyard was a saving grace as the vines were dried out by the brisk afternoon breezes from the Gulf and did not succumb to the rot suffered by so many. We stand behind the 2011 wines produced from our vineyard as being as good, if not better, than the much lauded 10 vintage.
